Apr 08

1st - Blustery conditions made the bushes difficult but the scrape produced 1 Little Egret, 1 Ruff, 3 Redshanks, 4 Snipe, 2 Ringed Plovers, 2 Oystercatchers, 6 Gadwall, 2 Coot and a pair of Pintails. KA 

2nd - 1 Firecrest again in the carpark bushes. AEC/SC. On the scrape was a Sand Martin , 2 White Wagtails, 1 Little Egret, 3 Snipe, 6 Dunlin, 5 Coot and 10 Gadwall. SC.

3rd - Early morning, 4 Chiffchaffs and 1 Goldcrest in the bushes, the scrape held 1 Ruff, 8 Redshanks, 2 Ringed Plovers, 2 Oystercatchers, 4 Snipe, 1 Little Egret and 13 Gadwall. 2 Swallows flew N. GG.                                      Late afternoon 2 Continental Coal Tits were in the large pine tree by the paddocks along Church Lane. GG/KA/JBS.   Late evening a Firecrest and single Goldcrest were in the carpark bushes. GG.

4th - This morning on the scrape were 2 Avocets, 1 Ruff, 12+ Redshanks, 2 Oystercatchers, 3 Snipe, several Siskins flew N, a Purple Sandpiper and 2 Ringed Plovers were on the rocks by the 2nd gun turret and a male Wheatear by 1st turret, 5 Chiffchaffs and 5 Goldcrests in the bushes and a calling Water Rail along the approach road. GG/KA. Additional sightings were 1 Firecrest in the willows behind the carpark bushes. Alf M.3 adult Med Gulls and 4 Blk T Godwits on the scrape earlier. AEC.

6th - Before the snow stopped play a Firecrest and 2 Chiffchaffs were seen in the carpark area, a Swallow flew N, not a lot on the scrape with 8 Redshanks, 1 sum plum Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plovers and 4 Oystercatchers noted. GG. Late afternoon 2 Firecrests in the bushes but little else, scrape had no additions. GG. 

7th - This morning 8 Siskins N, 2 Firecrest's and 2 Chiffchaffs in the carpark bushes, but little else. GG.

8th - This morning 1 Firecrest, 1 male Blackcap and 2 Chiffchaffs. GG. Late afternoon 2 Black Redstarts around the wind pump and 3 Little Egrets on the scrape. JBS. A Yellow Wagtail was posted on the board.

11th - Very slow for migrants with only 2 Chiffchaffs heard. A LRP was on the approach road floods. SC/PC. On the scrape a Pink footed Goose with 4 Greylags, 3 Blk T Godwits and 1 Ruff being the only birds noteworthy. GG.

12th - 2 Chiffchaffs in the bushes and 1 Ruff, 4 Blk T Godwits on the scrape being the highlights this morning. GG.

13th - Details for today were 2 Chiffchaffs in the bushes, the scrape held  5 Blk T Godwits, 1 Dunlin, 1 Ruff, 2 Ringed Plovers, 10+ Redshanks.Coot,1 Little Egret, also a Brent Goose by the sluice. KA/AD. Additionally 2 more Little Egrets were on the approach road floods and a single Yellow Wagtail. KA., A sighting of a single Whimbrel, details from the hide board.

14th - The first 2 Sedge Warblers of the year heard singing from the hide this morning, other migrants were 1 Sand Martin, 3 Swallows, 1 White Wagtail and 5 Chiffchaffs. On the scrape were a 2nd summer Med Gull, 1 Little Egret, 5 Blk T Godwits, 1 Ruff, 1 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plovers 10+ Redshanks and a Snipe. PRD. 

15th - A chilly morning with the approach road flood being frozen, the scrape had 1 Whimbrel, 6 Blk T Godwits, 16+ Redshanks, 2 Ringed Plovers and 2 Oystercatchers. KA. It appears we have a Tern raft being assembled on the scrape, watch this space....A Sandwich Tern flew N late afternoon.

16th - A noticable small fall of migrants with 8+ Willow Warblers, 5 Blackcaps, 2 Yellow Wagtails and 3 Chiffchaffs seen, on the scrape were 13 Blk T Godwits, 1 Ruff, 4 Ringed Plovers and 12+ Redshanks. GG. Early evening from the hide were 6+ Yellow Wagtails, 5 Snipe and 2 Swallows. KA.

17th - A strong biting E wind made things difficult today. Very quiet around the bushes but 2 Water Pipits on the scrape were a welcome sight. Much the same on the wader front, main difference was 5 Dunlin noted. KA.

18th - Todays best birds were 3 Marsh Harriers, 3 Swallows, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 White Wagtail and 2 Sandwich Terns. AM 

19th - Seen today were 3 Chiffchaffs, on the scrape were 1 Water Pipit, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Grey Plover, 3 Whimbrel, 12 Blk T Godwits, 3 Dunlin, 1 Little Grebe, 2 Oystercatchers. At the farm area/paddocks 1 Corn Bunting, 2 Chiffchaffs, 2 Redwings and a Little Grebe. PRD

20th - Up at the farm/paddocks area today was 2 male Ring Ouzels, 1 Wheatear, 2 White Wagtails and 2 Redwings. Around the carpark bushes were singles of Whitethroat, WillowWarbler and Sedge Warblers.The Scrape held 1 Water Pipit still, a 1s Med Gull, 1 Whimbrel, 12 Blk TGodwits, 2 Oystercatchers and 5 Snipe, at sea 1 Sandwich Tern. PRD/CJ. Also report were a pair of Garganey seen mid afternoon. SM. 

21st - Blustery conditions again. On the scrape were 2 Greenshanks, 2 Whimbrel, 1 Ruff, 15 Dunlin, 13+ Blk T Godwits, 9 Snipe, 2 Oystercatchers, a drake Pintail, 3 Yellow Wagtails, 14+ Swallows and 2 Sand Martins.The  bushes held 2 Lesser and 1 Common Whitethroat. KA/GG.  Reported earlier were 1 Reed Warbler and 3 Wheatears. PB/VB   

22nd - A few more migrants this morning, with 12 Whimbrel, 7 Wheatears, 7  Yellow Wagtails (including 1 blue headed) 2 Sand Martins and 4 Swallows all on the golf course.Around the bushes were 5 Lesser Whitethroats and 4 Common, 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Blackcaps.The scrape had 1 Greenshank, 1 Ruff, 14 Blk T Godwits, 6 Dunlin. GG.

23rd - Common Whitethroats were up to 10 and 7 Lesser were also noted, the scrape and surounding area held 6 Whimbrel, 14 Blk T Godwits, 5 Dunlin, 1 Ruff. A Greenshank, 2 Sand Martins and 11 Swallows all flew N.     A single Yellow Wagtail and 3 Wheatears were again on the golf course. GG. In the evening a Barn Owl and 3 Yellow Wagtails were seen. AD

25th - From the hide this afternoon, a Tree Pipit perched calling briefly then flew off N. On the scrape were 4 Avocets, 1 Ruff, 24 Blk T Godwits, 16 Dunlin and a Yellow Wagtail. 31 Whimbrel and 3 Wheatears were on the golf course. 6  Sanderling and 3 Ringed Plovers were on the beach. GG/KA

26th - Early morning 4 Wheatears, 2 on the mound and 2 on the golf course also 6 Whimbrel, a Cuckoo by the sewage farm. GG/AD.During the day 4 Brent Geese and 1 diver sp N, a male Bullfinch along the approach road, 7 Whitethroats around the bushes. 3 Barnacle Geese dropped in for 20 minutes before heading N ? and on the scrape a further 26 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 1 Ruff and 2 Ringed Plovers. AD. Late afternoon a Knot on the scrape before flying out to sea, also a Ashey headed Wagtail from the hide. KA.

27th - Today birds were 4 Avocets,10+ Whimbrel, 4 Greenshanks, 10 Blk T Godwits, 1 Ruff, 8 Ringed Plovers, 9 Dunlin, 5 Reed Warblers, 5+ Common and 4 Lesser Whitethroats, 5 Blackcaps, 5 Yellow Wagtails, 1 White Wagtail, 1 Cuckoo, 33 Swallows, 2 Swifts and a single Sand Martin. At sea a Sandwich Tern flew S. KA/PRD/GG

28th - An evening visit produced 1 LRP, 7 Blk T Godwits, 1 Little Grebe and a Yellow Wagtail. AD/JBS.

30th - A pair of Garganey on the scrape this morning also 1 LRP, 2 Avocets, 1 Greenshank, 2 Ruff, 2 Sandwich Terns, 9 Blk T Godwits and a Yellow Wagtail. GG/SC. This afternoon additions were 1 Little and 1 Common Tern on the scrape for a short while. GG/KA.
