July 08

1st - This morning and on the scrape were 3 Spotted Redshanks, 1 LRP juv, 60 Blk T Godwits, 10 Avocets, 2 Ringed Plovers and 2 Sandwich Terns being most noteworthy. GG/KA/RA. A 1st summer Med Gull by the sluice. RA, also a Whimbrel flying S along the seawall. GG.

2nd - Changes this morning with 2 Ruff, 2 Spotted Redshanks, 1 Snipe, 1 LRP juv, 1 Common Tern, 2 Ringed Plovers, 1 Curlew, now only 7 Blk T Godwits and 5 Avocets. KA. Evening additions were 2 Green Sandpipers and 1 Greenshank but no sign of the Ruff or Snipe. KA.

3rd - An early morning visit and noted were 1 Spotted Redshank, 4 Greenshanks, 3 Blk T Godwits, 5 Avocets and 2 Ringed PloversKA

4th - This morning 1 Spotted Redshank, 6 Avocets, 8 Blk T Godwits, 2 Greenshanks, 1 Sandwich Tern and 2 Ringed Plovers were the higlights. GG. Late afternoon additions were 1 Little Egret, 4 Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpipers and a 2nd summer Med Gull. KA/JBS.

5th - Early morning on the scrape were 1 Spotted Redshank, 4 Avocets, 7 Blk T Godwits, 2 Greenshanks, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin and 2 Green Sandpipers. GG. During the afternoon the following additional birds were noted 1 Little Egret, 2 unseasonal Golden Plovers, 2 Little Terns, 1 adult Med Gull and 1 Common Sandpiper. A 90 minute seawatch gave us 13 Whimbrel, 12 Curlew, 2 drake Tufted Ducks all flying S and 2 Common Terns N. KA/PRD/GG. 

6th - 2 Visits today both in vey windy conditions, the scrape held 1 Wood Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Redshank, 2 Green Sandpipers, 4 Common Sandpipers, 7 Blk T Godwits, 4 Avocets, 2 Greenshanks, 2 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plovers, 2 Whimbrel, 1 Little Tern, 1 Little Egret and a Med Gull. At sea 4 Bar T Godwits, 4 Little Terns, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Sandwich Tern, 2 Green Sandpipers and 5 Curlews flew S. KA/PRD/GG.  

7th - This morning on the scrape were 1 Wood Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Redshank, 2 Green Sandpipers, now 5 Common Sandpipers, 21 Blk T Godwits, 3 Avocets, 1 Greenshanks, 1 Ringed PloverKA

 

 

9th - An brief look from the hide this evening, water levels slightly up. Seen were 1 LRP juv, 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Common Sandpiper, 5 Blk T Godwits, 3 Avocets, 2 Greenshanks, 3 Ringed Plover,2 Little Egrets and 20+ Sand Martins.GG 

10th - Today's birds were 1 Garden Warbler and 2+ Bullfinches along the approach road. 3 Little Owls in the car park area willows. The scrape held 2 adult Little Gulls, a 2nd summer Med Gull and a Sandwich Tern, on the wader front 4 LRP's, 2 ads and 2 juvs, 3 Common Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Redshank, 5 Greenshanks, 3 Avocets, 10 Blk T Godwits, 2 Ringed Plovers and 3 Little Egrets. GG

11th - A visit today around midday, birds seen were 1 adult Little Gull, 1 Common Tern , 2 Sandwich Terns, 1 Green Sandpiper. 3 LRP's, 2 ads and juv, 2 Greenshanks, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Redshank, 5 Greenshanks, 2 Avocets, 15 Blk T Godwits, 2 Ringed Plovers and 30+ Sand Martins.. KA/PB/VB

12th - An early start, and on the scrape were  1 Spotted Redshank, 1 adult LRP, 2 Greenshanks, 3 Common Sandpipers, 10 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, 1 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plovers, 6 Oystercatchers and 2 Little Egrets.         At sea  thousands of Swifts moving south. KA

13th - Early this morning and showing from the hide were 4 LRP's, 2 ads and 2 juvs, 3 Common Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Redshank, 20 Blk T Godwits, 4 Avocets, 7 Dunlin, 1 Ringed Plover and a 2nd summer Med Gull. KA. Additional sightings were a male Bullfinch along the approach road, 1 Snipe and 1 Sandwich Tern on the scrape. PRD.

14th - A southward movement at sea this morning with 40+ Gannets, 21 Common Scoters, 2 Sandwich Terns, 2 Common Terns, a Whimbrel and 3 Yellow Wagtails noted in 1 hour. On the scrape were 5 LRP's, 4juvs, 3 Common Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Redshank, 8 Blk T Godwits, 3 Avocets, 2 Ringed Plover and 3 Sandwich Terns over. Again 2 Bullfinches along the approach road. GG

15th - A  early visit and on the scrape were 1 Whimbrel,1 Green Sandpiper,3 LRP's all juvs, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Redshank, 6 Blk T Godwits, 1 Snipe, 2 Litle Egrets, 2 Avocets, 2 Ringed Plover, A look out to sea produced 13 Gannets, 2 Turnstone, 7 Dunlin and a male Tufted Duck all S, and a Guillemot N. A calling Bullfinch was heard along the approach road and the first Kingfisher of the year by the sluice. GG

16th - Seawatching took up most of this mornings visit and produced 3 Arctic Skua's, 2 Arctic Terns, 2 Common Terns, 3 Whimbrel, 12 Gannets and 5 unseasonal Brent Geese all heading S, noted flying N were 7 Common Scoter, 2 Sandwich Terns and distant Auk sp. A Hobby was viewed in a relentless pursuit of a Swift, great to watch. On the scrape were 1 Whimbrel,3 LRP's 2 juvs, 5 Common Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Redshank, 7 Blk T Godwits, 1 Snipe, 2 Avocets, 2 Ringed Plover.KA/AD/GG.

17th - Not much change today with the following being on the scrape,  1 Spotted Redshank, 1 adult LRP, 2 Common Sandpipers, 7 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, 4 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plovers, 2 Oystercatchers a Sandwich Tern and 10+ Sand Martins. KA 

18th - A superb adult Pectoral Sandpiper was found this morning by Karen Aldous it was showing well on and off and still present this evening. KA/PRD/SC/PC/GG. Other birds seen were 4 brief Sandwich Terns, 1 now grey Spotted Redshank, 1 adult LRP, 2 Common Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin, 2 Avocets, 2 Ringed Plovers and 1 Little Egret. KA. Additional birds were 21 Blk T Godwits, 1 Turnstone, a 15 minute seawatch produced 4 Gannets and 46 Sand Martins N. PBr. Later a male Marsh Harrier and 2 Snipe were seen. JBS

19th - The Pectoral Sandpiper was still present until 1700 hrs at least also on the scrape were 1 Spotted Redshank, 2  LRP's 1 ad/1juv, 3 Common Sandpipers, 1 Ruff, 13 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, 3 Ringed Plovers, 2 Snipe,1 Sandwich Tern, 2 juv Turtle Doves and 1 Little Egret.GG/AD. 2 sessions of seawatching today produced 2 Arctic Skua's(dark phase) N, 50+ Gannets, 1 Guillemot, 1 ad Kittiwake, 1 juv Med Gull, 4 Sandwich Terns, 3 Common Terns, 9 Whimbrel, 1 Turnstone,150+ Sand Martins, 1 Hobby, 1 Little Egret and 30+ Curlews.GG/AD/KA/PRD. A distant large shearwater was seen, probable Cory's. PRD

20th - The Pectoral Sandpiper was again present and drawing in a good number of admirers, also on the scrape were 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 LRPjuv, 4+ Common Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin 1 juv, 1 Ruff, 6 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, 3 Ringed Plovers 1 juv and 1 Little Egret.GG/GE/PRD/CJ.                                                                                                                                                    3 sessions of seawatching today produced the following totals: 6 Arctic Skua's( 1 pale phase) 5S/1N, A southward passage of 38+ Gannets, 1 ad Kittiwake, 1 juv Med Gull, 9 Sandwich Terns, 22 Common Terns, 6 Whimbrel, 8 Turnstone,9 Blk T Godwits,1 Bar T Godwit,6 Sanderling,3 Knot,9 Dunlin,41 Oystercatchers,1 Fulmar and 15 Curlews, 7 BD Brent Geese.Moving north were 4 Sandwich Terns and a Guillemot, a juvenile Marsh Harrier flew in off. GE/GG. Late evening a 2nd Ruff and a single Golden plover were seen. JBS. 

21st - The Pectoral Sandpiper is still present but elusive at times, also showing on the scrape were 1 Spotted Redshank, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Ruff, 9 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, also a single Turnstone on the sluice. The approach road bushes held 4 singing Chiffchaffs. KA

22nd - Not much change with the elusive Pectoral Sandpiper still present also the Spotted Redshank, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Ruff, 4 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets,2 LRP's 1 ad/1 juv and 2 Little Egrets. KA. Additional birds during the afternoon were 1 Whimbrel, 1 Dunlin, 1 Greenshank. PBr

23rd - An early seawatch produced 7 Arctic Terns S, 8 Sandwich Terns N, 28 Common Terns S, 30+ Commic Terns S, 7 Common Scoter and 2 Whimbrel N, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Dunlin and 26 Oystercatchers flew S. GE/GG.           The Pectoral Sandpiper is still showing but still elusive. A juv Brent Goose on the scrape was a surprise find, also  on the scrape were 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 4 Common Sandpipers, 1 Ruff, 4 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, 2 LRP's, 6 Sandwich Terns, 2 Ringed Plovers, a Little owl on the mound and 2 juv Marsh Harriers over the scrape. GG/GE/KA.

24th - The Pectoral Sandpiper was showing well today, other birds the scrape were 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 juv LRP's, 5 Common Sandpipers, 1 Ruff, 5 Dunlin, 9 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, 4 Ringed Plovers, 4 Sandwich Terns and 1 Little Egret. GG. A seawatch over high tide produced 12+ Sandwich Terns, 7 Common Terns N and a single Dunlin S. 2 Bullfinches were in the approach road woods. GG/KA.

25th - Much the same as yesterday with the Pectoral Sandpiper still showing well, also on the scrape were 1 Spotted Redshank, 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 LRP's, 4 Common Sandpipers, 1 Ruff, 3 Dunlin, 7 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets,1 Ringed Plover, 1 Sandwich Tern and 1 Little Egret. KA/MR. A short seawatch  4 Common Terns.GG

26th - Surprisingly the Pectoral Sandpiper is still present along with 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Ruff, 2 juv LRP's, 4 Common Sandpipers, 4 Snipe, 3 Whimbrel, 5 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets,1 Ringed Plover,4 Common Terns,1 Little Egret, 11 Canada Geese and a juv Marsh Harrier. KA/AD/PRD. A Med Gull was seen on the beach. PRD. A seawatch between 1830 - 2030 produced a southerly movement of 1 pale phase Arctic Skua, 2 Little Gulls, 12 Common Scoter, 14 Sandwich Terns, 56 Common Terns and 63 Commic Terns ( likely Commons) also 5 Ringed Plovers. AD

27th - This morning the Pectoral Sandpiper is still showing, also 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 adult, 2 juv LRP's, 3 Common Sandpipers, 5 Dunlin, 4 Snipe, 6 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets,2 Ringed Plover and 2 Sandwich Terns. A short seawatch gave 2 Common Terns N and 6 Sandwich Terns S. AD. Additional birds for the afternoon were 1 Wood Sandpiper and 1 Whimbrel on the scrape. PNt/AD.

28th - Seawatching between 0740 -0910 produced 26 Gannets S 1N, 22 Common Scoter S, 9 Little Terns S, 4 Sandwich Terns N and 27 Commics 25 S/2 N. SC. The scrape held the Pectoral Sandpiper,1 adult Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Wood Sandpiper,Spotted Redshank, 1 Whimbrel, now 3 Green Sandpipers, 4 Common Sandpipers, 4 Snipe, 6 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets,4 Ringed Plover,1 Turnstone and 1 Sandwich Tern .GG/SC/KA. 1 Fulmar flew N. JBS

29th - Today the scrape today held a good variety of waders but only in small numbers, with 1 Pectoral Sandpiper,1 adult Little Stint, 1 adult Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Wood Sandpiper,Spotted Redshank,3 LRP'S all juvs, 1 Green Sandpiper, 5+ Common Sandpipers, 1 Greenshank, 1 Ruff, 2 Dunlin, 1 Turnstone, 5 Snipe, 6 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets,5 Ringed Plover 1 juv, also 1 adult Little Gull, juv Marsh Harrier. GG/AD/JK/KA/PRD. Seawatching this morning yielded 18 Common Scoter, 11 Common Terns, 1 Little Tern, 6 Grey Plovers, 9 Turnstones, 1 Blk T Godwit, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Whimbrel and 3 Curlews  all S and 4 Sandwich Terns N. GG/KA/AD.

30th - This morning on the scrape were the long staying  Pectoral Sandpiper also 1 Wood Sandpiper, 2 LRP's, 2 Green Sandpipers, 6 Common Sandpipers, 1 Turnstone, 3 Snipe, 5 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets,2 Ringed Plovers.KA. 

31st - A  Pectoral Sandpiper seen this morning by Karen Aldous is thought to be a different bird to the long staying individual, appearing a lot fresher and a more defined pec band, so a probable juvenile. Other birds seen today were 1 Wood Sandpiper,Spotted Redshank,3 LRP'S all juvs, 2 Green Sandpipers, 5 Common Sandpipers, 1 Dunlin, 1 Turnstone, 4 Snipe, 2 Blk T Godwits, 2 Avocets, 2 Ringed Plover, 3 Oystercatchers. A short look out to sea this evening yielded 4 Gannets, 1 Sandwich Tern and 18 Commic Terns all S. GG/PRD/KA.
