(The above "Colour Coding" changed for several species in 2013 due to some being now a more regular species at the Haven - which has got to be good, whilst others are unfortunately not seen/recorded here as much as they used to be. This coding is purely defined by ourselves for the Haven site).

JUNE 2016

1st/2nd - No reports returned. 

3rd - A two hour visit this morning provided counts across the scrape and grazing marsh that also included several species with young.  Numbers gave 1 Shoveler, 1 Gadwall, 2 Mallards (+3 ducklings), 4 Teal, 2prs Shelducks (with broods of 10 & 11) and 2prs Canada Geese (one pair with goslings - probable 9 total), also 2 Coot, 2 Blk T Godwits, 5 Oystercatchers and 28 Avocets (+1 chick that was noted as first seen yesterday & tended by NB/YO).  Briefly over the scrape were 2 adult Med Gulls, several Black-headed Gull chicks were viewed on the raft, 4+ Swifts and c8 House Martins were in the vicinity, as was a Kestrel. SC.  Additional for off-shore viewing were 15 Gannets. MR.  

4th/5th - No reports returned.

6th - Of particular note today, 3 Barnacle Geese were viewed from the main hide as at 09.47hrs. PRD.

7th/8th/9th/10th - No reports returned.

11th - Flying over the scrape as at 10.26hrs, a Red Kite was viewable as it headed in a SW direction. MR.  A Ringing Session also took place this morning and included nine species and a total of 15 birds, amongst which were 2 Blackcaps and 2 House Sparrows. SC.

12th - During this morning's visit, a Common Sandpiper was of particular note, being something different of late to report for on the scrape. MR.

13th/14th - No reports returned.

15th - A quick evening visit for a Ringing Session involving some of the Black-headed Gulls. PNt/LW.

16th - Surveying for c30 minutes from the main hide this morning, provided of note a drake Shoveler, 1pr Gadwall, 5 Mallards (adults) of which one was a single female with 3 young, 11 Shelducks (adults) of which one pair were with a brood of 10 small ducklings, while of 9 adult Canada Geese, one pair had 9 goslings.  Avocet adults on the scrape at this time numbered 32 with additions of young broods of 1, 2 and 3 respectively.  Singles of Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk were viewed, as were 5 Swifts.  Additional notes proved the area to be quite 'vocal' and included a Meadow Pipit (song flighting), a Chiffchaff (singing), 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Cetti's Warbler (singing along the brook from the main hide), 2 Reed Warblers (singing) and 3 Common Whitethroats (1pr + 1 singing). SC/PC

17th/18th/19th/20th/21st - No reports returned.

22nd - An evening visit that included a Ringing Session, yielded a Haven 2016 Year Tick in the form of a Green Sandpiper* that flushed from the main scrape.  A Cuckoo and a Common Buzzard were seen, as were 2 Red-legged Partridges that were between the localised scrape and farm area.  Amongst the Avocets with young, there were at least two broods with 3 chicks in each. SC/PC/MR/LW.  

23rd/24th/25th - No reports returned.

26th - A few visitors/visits to the site today and another Year Tick too.  Located on the scrape were 2 Tufted Ducks* and 2 male Ruff (summer plumage). MR.  Giving a nice site tick for one observer this morning, a juvenile Coal Tit (British race) was quite mobile in the bushes "approaching the scrape near the Sluice". PNs.
